Introduction
Salah, the second pillar of Islam, is more than a ritual; it is the cornerstone of a Muslim’s daily life and relationship with Allah. Its regular observance shapes character, strengthens faith, and provides spiritual sustenance.
Why Salah is Obligatory
Salah is mentioned over 700 times in the Qur’an, emphasizing its centrality. Allah commands:
“And establish prayer and give Zakah, and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience].” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:43)
Benefits of Salah
- Connection with Allah:
Salah allows direct communication with Allah without intermediaries. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“When one of you prays, he is conversing with his Lord.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, 405) - Spiritual and Emotional Stability:
Salah brings peace to the heart and mind. Allah says:“Indeed, by the remembrance of Allah, hearts are assured.” (Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28) - Protection from Sin:“Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing.” (Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45)
Neglecting Salah
Abandoning Salah is a major sin. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Between a man and shirk and kufr is the abandonment of prayer.” (Sahih Muslim, 82)
